The first Copper River opening of the 2014 Alaska salmon season occurred on May 15, 2014. The twelve-hour fishing period opened at 7:00 am with perfect weather. The small boat harbor in Cordova was bustling with activity. The opener catch was only 20% of what was anticipated but fresh Salmon was shipped out, arriving at The Fish Guys on Saturday with the elusive Copper Kings and Copper Sockeyes. There is approximately one King Salmon to every 2,000 Sockeye Salmon.
